Aconitum Napellus (Aconite)
This is an excellent remedy for a sudden shock with fear and anxiety. This shock may occur after a traumatic event such as an earthquake, severe storms, an accident, surgery, and injury, or after witnessing an accident. The feeling is that one's life may have been threatened.
Apis Mellifica
The source of this remedy is the honey bee. Apis is useful in the treatment of any allergic reaction, such as an allergic reaction to a bee or wasp sting. The affected part may be red and swollen, itch, burn, sting, and be sensitive to heat. Apis can also be used for an allergic reaction to certain foods or medication. A severe allergic reaction may result in anaphylactic shock and is an emergency room situation.
Arnica Montana
Arnica is the number one remedy to consider for recent and past, primarily physical, trauma to the body. Arsenicum Album
Arsenicum is a polychrest remedy, i.e. it has a multitude of uses. One of these uses is for food poisoning. It is indicated for intense nausea with vomiting and diarrhea. The patient will look pale and feel chilly. He or she is usually anxious, exhausted, weak, and restless, and may feel a burning pain in the stomach.
Belladonna
For the early stages of high fever and severe pain, Belladonna is an excellent remedy. The patient will have a flushed face, his or her skin will be bright red and dry and the eyes will be staring with dilated pupils. The condition begins suddenly and violently and worsens rapidly, but does not last very long. This remedy is not useful for continued fevers. It is often used for babies and children with earaches and for teething. Belladonna has also been successfully used for severe menstrual cramps and sore throats.
Calendula Officinalis
Calendula is a great healer of wounds, cuts, burns, and punctures. It comes in the form of an ointment to be used externally on the affected areas and in pellets to be used internally. As an ointment, it is very useful where the skin is broken and the open wounds are very sore and painful. Calendula works as an antiseptic and prevents serious infection. It diminishes inflammation, suppuration, and controls bleeding. It is a soothing agent in any skin condition. When the pellets are taken internally, Calendula can dramatically promote healing for existing wound infections.
Cantharis
Cantharis is mainly used for disorders in the urinary tract. The symptoms often come on quickly and progress rapidly. Burning pains are almost always present. It is highly indicated for cystitis, urethritis, dysuria, and inflammation of the kidneys.
Chamomilla
Chamomilla is a remedy often used for infants and children who have painful or difficult dentition or teething, diarrhea, earaches, fever, or colic. The stool has a rotten odor. The patient seems to be oversensitive to pain, is angry, and very irritable. He or she will complain and may strike or kick the parent. He or she is inconsolable. One cheek may be red and the other pale.
Cocculus
Cocculus mainly affects the nervous system with some components of vertigo. It is very effective for motion sickness and seasickness. The patient may have dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, trembling, headache, exhaustion, and jetlag.
Gelsemium
Gelsemium is extremely effective in relieving severe anxiety before a test, interview, or performance. It is the main remedy for stage fright. The chief complaint of the patient is weakness on all levels. The patient may be trembling or quivering and cannot face the challenge.
Ignatia Amara
Ignatia is the main remedy for recent grief, such as a death, divorce, or loss. Disappointment, especially romantic disappointment, internal conflict, and emotional shock are key factors. The patient likes to be alone to cry, sighs are oversensitive and nervous. The patient cannot come to grips with the reality at hand.
Hypericum (St. John's Wort)
Hypericum is the first remedy for injuries to parts of the body that are rich in nerves. It is very useful for injuries to the spine, fingers, toes, eyes, and lips. The following are examples where Hypericum is indicated: crushing fingers in a car door, stepping on a nail, tearing off a fingernail or toenail, or cutting the lips. Sometimes there are shooting pains up the spine from the injured nerves. Excessive painfulness and extreme sensitivity are guiding symptoms.
Ledum Palustre
Ledum is indicated for puncture wounds with suppuration produced by sharp objects with nails, especially if the affected parts are cold and feel better with a cold application. It helps prevent sepsis and tetanus. Ledum should always be given after any insect bite or sting or animal bite. It is especially indicated for cat bites. Here again, it helps prevent sepsis. The injury may be puffy, numb, and sensitive to touch. The area feels better with a cold application.
Millefolium Achillea
The knowledge of the wound-healing power of Millefolium was known in antiquity. The plant received its name because it was mentioned in the Iliad as healing the wounds of the soldiers. It is suited for all types of wounds that bleed profusely. It is invaluable for various types of hemorrhages (bright red blood), bleeding hemorrhoids, nosebleeds, or oozing of blood from the edge of closed wounds.
Rhus Toxidodendron
The Rhus tox patient will find relief of his symptoms by continued motion. These patients are very restless and anxious. Rhus tox is a great remedy for arthritis, affecting joints, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues. Rhus tox also strongly affects the skin and is an excellent remedy for poison ivy or poison oak. The eruptions are red, inflamed, and severely itchy. There may be blisters filled with clear fluid or pus.
Staphysagria
Staphysagria is an ancient remedy dating back to the time of Hippocrates. It is a polychrest remedy with many uses. It may be indicated after surgeries, circumcisions, childbirth, and injuries where the patient has feelings of humiliation, shame, anger, or indignation. The patient has the feeling of having been assaulted and is physically and emotionally very sensitive. The pains are typically stitching or shooting.
